Can you take a motorcycle to a regular auto-mechanic?
Everywhere there are auto-mechanic shops, I hardly see any motorcycle mechanic shops, so can you take your motorcycle to normal car shops?
Motorcycle mechanic shops may seem hard to find, but they are out there. When I bought my first motorcycle, I took it to a regular auto-garage to have it inspected before I got it registered. The mechanic who inspected it said there was a leak in the exhaust system, and that I would have to have it fixed before it would pass. I tracked down the Yamaha dealer/mechanic shop, and had it inspected there. It passed with flying colors... the "leak" was actually a factory design feature that allows water to drain from the exhaust pipe if it gets in.
Auto mechanics are trained and certified to work on cars, and though you may be able to get it fixed, I would say you are better off finding a dealer/mechanic shop that specifically advertises that they work on your make of motorcycle. It will be easier to get parts from them, maintenance will be faster (they already have the right tools, equipment, and parts on hand, usually), and they'll know what to look for if something goes wrong.
