How do I secure a loose wall box (for a light switch)?
I have a 4 switch wall box that is secured to a stud on one side (the right side), but the left side will not stay flush with the wall. It keeps pushing itself out.
The hole in the wall is a little too tall for the box, so the paddles that are made to secure it aren't holding it in place. What are my options?
the piece you want has a few names, "f" strap, tin "E", box holdit. its a flat metal strap shaped like a large F. you turn off
the power and pull out the switch on the side of the box you want to secure. slide the bottom of the f between the box and drywall and push it up far enough to get the other side of the strap in the wall. now push down so the top and the bottom of the strap are behind the drywall with the two parts of the F sticking out next to the box. push the box back into the wall were you want it and fold the two pieces of the strap into the box. squeeze them tight with plyers so it lays flat inside the box, you don't want it to come into contact with the live screws on the switch. the box is secured, reinstall switch and cover, turn on and test. easy peasy, buy two if you aren't sure what I'm saying, cost about a nickle and its easy to drop it down the wall.
